He began his career as a public servant with the City of Rosenberg as a police dispatcher in 1980, and worked his way through departmental ranks, serving in Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Administration, before being appointed as Chief of Police in 1988.
During his 25 years as Police Chief, Gracia served three separate times as Interim City Manager, ultimately being appointed City Manager in November 2013.
He has also held Reserve Commissions for the City of Needville and for Fort Bend County Precinct One Constable A. In 1996 Bobby was recruited by Leaman Building Materials (Home Lumber and Allied Concrete) for the position of Safety Director.
He held that position until 1999 at which time he was promoted to Director of Human Resources.
Therefore, the figures may not yet reflect all changes in DC memberships, including from automatic enrolment (AE) through to December 2016.
Currently, he holds an Instructor and Master Peace Officer license from the State of Texas.
While employed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Lanny became well educated in the Civil Service Commission process to include participating in both the grievance and appeal process.
During his extensive career with Harris County, he worked in both the jail and patrol bureaus.
His years of experience include being a supervisor throughout most of the departments to include CID, with the majority of his time in the Law Enforcement Bureau.
Lanny recently retired from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on January 31, 2014, after 13 years as a Captain.
